Project Title: Collection, Cry preservation of adult hepatic/islet cells/Umbilical Cord Blood Stem Cells.

Objectives
1. To collect and cryopreserve cells of hepatic, islet or UCB origin.
2. To assess safety and suitability of expanded cells from adult donor/cadaver (hepatic cells), & islet cells by characterization before and after cryopreservation.

Abstract
Usage of hepatic or liver progenitor cells, islets cells and Umbilical cord blood derived stem cells for treatment of various diseases after cryopreservation for long duration for the child's or closely matched relatives incase of necessity in future. In the present investigation, hepatic/islets/UCB cells will be isolated from live donors/cadavers and expanded ex-vivo (hepatic/islet cells) and cryopreserved (hepatic/islets/UCB cells), such cells cryopreserved for long time when needed will be revived and expanded and used for treating various diseases.
This project will help in storing the cells expanded after cryopreservation from adult donor/cadavers in a safe manner and will also help in understanding the differentiated cell storage. Data obtained from this investigation will be used to establish a Hepatic/islet/Umbilical cord blood storage bank. We believe that this approach of cryopreservation of Hepatic/islet/UCB derived stem cells provide a new direction towards cell therapy and regenerative medicine with the goals of clinical application in the near future.
