Project Title: Isolation of cells from adult liver /cadaver donor liver for studying their regenerative capability and potential for clinical application.

Objectives
1. Isolation of cells (Hepatic progenitors, Oval cells and Hepatocytes) from adult liver/cadaver donor.
2. Characterization of isolated cells
3. In vitro expansion of the isolated cells and assessing possibility for clinical applications.

Abstract
The potential applicability of the transplantation of hepatocytes or liver progenitor cells for the treatment of liver diseases has received much attention. Isolation of hepatic progenitors from human source is a major challenge for the clinical application of this therapy. In the present investigation, liver cells will be isolated from the cadaver/fetal livers and cultured in vitro. The cells would also be cultured in our in-house developed novel hydrogel. If the cells could be cultured in large quantity, the cultured cells may be transplanted to human and used for clinical purpose.
